Kristin Scott Thomas Meets the Queen
Kristin Scott Thomas, 54, the actress who will be portraying Queen Elizabeth II, 88, in the London theater production The Audience, had the pleasure of meeting the Queen on Thursday. She was at Buckingham Palace to receive a dameship, which is the female equivalent of a knightship, for her services to drama. When asked by the Queen what she would be doing next, she revealed that she would be portraying her. The Queen responded that it would be a challenging part to play.
The play, The Audience, is an account of the queen’s relationship with each of the prime ministers to take office during the time period of her sixty year reign over the United Kingdom. It specifically focuses on her weekly meetings with the various British prime ministers.
Currently, Dame Helen Mirren is playing the part of Queen Elizabeth II. She originated the role in London in 2013 and is presently starring in a Broadway production of the play. The play is written by Peter Morgan, who also wrote the movie The Queen. Scott Thomas, who built her reputation in movies like Four Weddings and a Funeral,is joining a long list of drama dames, including Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.
